Description
Up for sale is a catalog from the Pattee Plow Company of Monmouth Illinois, published in 1883. The catalog features plows and cultivators, and related equipment such as wrenches, blades, yokes, wheels, lifting levers, and three horse equalizers. The plows could be pulled by horses, or worked manually (walked/pushed). The catalog has calendars for the years 1883 and 1884.Great graphics of the plows.
In the back of the booklet there were ten blank pages that were filled in by the original owner with a diary of daily activities beginning March 1883. Most likely written by a woman, the diary details local events, visits, churning butter, making a pair of drawers, making bean bags, birthdays, trips to the post office and store, finishing reading "Little Dorrit". Amusing notes about Susanna Carter having her "ears doctored", Papa removing a wen (?) from the face of Eli Willents, and Eliza Collins getting a new splint for her fractured arm. The writing is in both pen and pencil....not sure of who the writer was, or her location, but mostly likely in the midwest - the catalog was from Ketchum & Johnston in Marshalltown Iowa. The booklet measures 3.5" by 6", has a total of 24 pages, is complete,
in good condition - some smudges, binding a bit loose. Buyer pays .95 shipping in the US.
