Air Florida Airlines "Unaccompanied Minor" Tags (2)
These tags were used by Air Florida in the mid-70's to identify children under the age of 12 traveling without an adult.
Mint condition.
This is a personal item from my vast collection of Air Florida memorabilia when I enjoyed a long career from almost the start-up of the carrier to it's premature demise, July 3, 1984.
This tag would be attached to the child's clothing, usually his/her shirt. This would alert the gate agents & flight attendants to give special attention while the child was onboard and dis-embarking the aircraft...The child would be escorted to & from the aircraft by an Air Florida ticket or gate agent to be released to the awaiting party. Children were always placed in the "bulkhead" seats of the plane...the very first row.
The child's personal information, name, telephone numbers & addresses from & to destination was printed in the space provided on the back of the tag. Front side of white cardboard tag has large Air Florida & logo in bright blue...looks turquoise in pix due to flash but is a true royal blue, part of the airline's colors. (at that time were blue & orange) Above is printed "Unaccompanied Youngster"
Measures about 4 1/2" square. String attached to top to fasten to child's clothing...Was used for just a short period of time until Air Florida started issuing metal pins (also available to bid on)...Doubt there are too many still out there.
