Vintage Ideal Astro Base Space Toy Play Set w/Box Spaceman Car Astronaut Rocket. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
What incredible toy this is; a true vintage item.
Here's a description for the Astro Base in this auction.
On the wikipedia page it says that Ideal made two variations of the Astro Base. The original "all red" version featured a lighted Astro Scope that illuminated the pictures spinning around the Astro Scope. Ideal Toys discontinued this version and offered the common "red and white" version. However when the astro scope spins it doesn't seem to be lighting up.
When it is spinning and you hit the rocket fire button then you can see some light behind the astroscope.
The space lock and hoist goes in and out without issue. The space lock works as intended by opening up the space lock and hoist automatically and locking the astroscope.
The scout car is a bit of a quandary for me. One of the wheels spins fine but the other spins intermittently and at a slower speed. I don't know exactly how it's supposed to function. When you use the controller on the Astro base and change it to turn it turns one of the wheels without issue and it seems to be turning at a constant speed. in order to get the drive function to work you got to put a slight torque on the switch before you set it down into drive. this also spins the one wheel at a nice constant speed, but now the other wheel does rotate but much slower and intermittently.

Also included are the instructions two missiles with the red toppers though they have cracks where the seal is on the rocket. The battery door is in perfect condition. The dome for the scout car is perfect. The astronaut is perfect.
To the issues. The scout car itself has two problems. One of the rocket launchers release pieces is broken off and I don't have that piece here. And in the picture I took a close up of it the plastic lock for the axle broke while I was here handling everything so I still have that little piece and it'll be in a bag with everything else. also in the top right of the astrobase control panel it looks like the plastic had been melted you can see this in the pictures as well.
