    Description

Up for sale is a very rare, working vintage 1935 Buck Rogers Pocket watch.  The movement and chrome or nickel plated case was made by Ingraham Watch Company.  The colorful dial has a picture of Buck Rogers holding a Rocket Pistol and his girlfriend, Wilma Deering holding the second hand dial.  The hour and minute hands of this fantastic watch are copper colored lightning bolts.  On the back is an engraving of a hairy, one eyed space monster called “Comet Man”.  Very Rare and very fun.  The watch is set and wound using the stem on top which is protected by a watch chain loop.  As can be seen in the sequential pictures I posted, you can see that the watch is working.
During the Great Depression, most men could not afford a pocket watch so watch companies made an inexpensive, affordable watch called a “dollar watch” that had a very basic, but reliable
movement and a plastic crystal.  Ingraham made several styles of dollar watches, but the one that was used for the Buck Rogers watch was the “Viceroy” dollar watch.  The last photo I posted is of the Ingraham “Viceroy” dollar watch, that I downloaded from the internet so you can compare it with the Buck Rogers case.  The “Viceroy” pocket watch in the last picture is not included in this sale.   As a child’s toy, made in 1935, during the Great Depression, this was a very inexpensive watch and really were not meant to last for 86 years, but this one has lasted and works great.  No doubt it has sat it the back of a drawer for years, wrapped up in a box and out of harms way.  Like most watches like this, where the crystal even survived, the original plastic crystal on this watch has yellowed, but that adds to the value, because being basically a child’s toy, the original crystals either got so brittle from age, developed small cracks and fell apart, got broken or knocked off and lost.
Also included is a very attractive 3”w x 5”h watch display dome with a bright brass hook and base.  In 2009, Kovel’s.com, an antiques information site, appraised this watch in at 5.00 to 3.00 based on condition.
